Tunisian Bread - Vegan

Ingredients:

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Mix well to distribute the yeast evenly.
  2. Add warm water and olive oil to the dry mixture and mix until the dough starts to come together. You may need to use your hands to bring it together into a shaggy mass.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add more flour as needed.
  4. Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a clean, lightly oiled bowl. Turn the dough to coat it with oil and cover with plastic wrap or a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 2 hours or until it doubles in size.
  5. Once the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release any air bubbles. Turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a round loaf or any other desired shape.
  6. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Place a baking sheet or pizza stone in the oven to preheat as well.
  7. Carefully remove the hot baking sheet or pizza stone from the oven and place the shaped dough onto it. Using a sharp knife or razor blade, make several slashes on the top of the dough to help it expand during baking. If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds over the top for added flavor and texture.
  8. Brush the top of the dough with a little olive oil to help it brown and return it to the oven.
  9. Bake for about 25 to 30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  10. Remove the baked Tunisian bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving. Enjoy your delicious vegan Tunisian bread!
